098 – A Fake May Day in September

We discuss the cruel timing of the Biden administration and the Democratic controlled Congress ripping away vital unemployment assistance and pandemic related programs from 7.5 million people on Labor Day, a day that was once a celebration of labor unionization and now has become another meaningless day to shop till ya drop or get blind drunk like usual. We give a very compact overview of all things labor union related throughout US history, from positive steps forwards to literal massacres on behalf of Moneyed Interests. And we round things out by discussing how Labor Day Is a Scam To Keep You Poor and Miserable Forever, and how May Day, the true international day of labor solidarity, was wrenched away from from American consciousness, despite its origins being from the infamous Haymarket affair/riot in Chicago.

097 – End Times Weather Report / Listener Mailbag

Fires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and of course the pandemic holding it all together. There's a “Mu” variant in town, coming soon to a human population near you! The draconian Texas abortion legislation was, of course, all the fault of Ralph Nader, Susan Sarandon, and Bernie (and his awful awful “bros”). Pulling out combat troops, leaving the drones and the psychotic contractors behind in Afghanistan, all while bipartisanship gives the green light to adding another $25,000,000,000 to the (always underfunded) defense budget in 2022 (gotta annihilate Yemeni civilians somehow). The Sackler Family continues to embody evil. And we have our inaugural “Mailbag” segment on the show.

095 – Pray Away Project MK-Exodus

We veer away from our usual fair, slightly, and discuss the heinous cruelty of gay conversion therapy and several interrelated issues concerning American Christianity, homophobia, class-based analysis, cultural warfare, and more. We used the new Streaming Service documentary Pray Away as a rough guide for the discussion.

000 – F9 (2021) – Supplemental Commentary Track

Since we did our first endurance film franchise marathon and watched all eight Fast & Furious movies last year, we felt it was our obligation to do a commentary for the new, ninth (!), entry in the franchise, F9.

Big magnets and an honest to goodness car-in-outer-space scene were the highlights.

For context, we recorded this after recording episodes 088 and 089 all on the same day, so things get a little loopy.

000 – An American Carol (2008) – Commentary Track feat. Boomer Death Squad

In a Heat Death first we have guests comment on a movie with us. Communing from the other side of the globe, Danny, Joe and Matt from Boomer Death Squad join us in viewing the worst movie in our podcast canon, An American Carol, a uniquely inept and horrendous film in every way, and that's not even factoring in its abhorrent political ideology. Still, wading through cinematic trash is still fun with your pals, so watch along with us, if ye dare tread.

***The actual movie/commentary begins at the 35:28 mark, prior to that is the last train to Riffsville and some discussion about what we're about to see.

092 – The Last Gasp of the Bush Years or: Where the Laughter Died feat. Boomer Death Squad

We discuss our viewing of the abysmal, terminally unfunny, conservative skewering of 2000s era liberalism An American Carol. We take a crack at what exactly it is that keeps certain political comedy from being funny and ideologically coherent at the same time, and what renders certain comedy toothless and painfully unfunny. Nevertheless, we keep things pretty loose and digressive in the spirit of mutually celebrating a year in podcasting with our pals Danny, Joe and Matt from Boomer Death Squad.

091 – Atomic Anniversary / Cover-Up of Biden’s Cover-Up

Per the 76th anniversary of Hiroshima, we discuss the surrounding historical details of dropping The Bomb. Biden wore a tan suit. Biden and Psaki lied about vital details concerning vaccinations and masks and no one gives a shit because half the country will take a bullet for their favorite political TV friends and the other half doesn't want to admit coronavirus is real or that masks have any efficacy.

Anyway, check out this tune:  Yo La Tengo – Nuclear War (Version 2)
